Camera marketing focuses on sensor size and megapixels. Here's why the processing behind the photo often matters more.
Two phones with very similar camera sensors can produce noticeably different photo quality, because the software processing that happens after the sensor captures light plays an enormous role in the final result.
What that processing actually does
Modern phone cameras combine multiple rapid exposures, correct for lighting and color automatically, and use trained models to sharpen details and reduce noise, all within a fraction of a second after you press the shutter.
Why megapixel counts can be misleading
A higher megapixel count doesn't automatically mean a better photo, since image quality depends heavily on how much light each individual sensor pixel can capture and how well the processing software handles that data, which is why camera comparisons based on megapixels alone are unreliable.
